Official release of the Lightning Network whitepaper by Joseph Poon and Thaddeus Dryja. The whitepaper proposes scalable off-chain instant payments using a decentralized system, whereby transactions are sent over a network of micropayment channels whose transfer of value occurs off-blockchain.
